Visitation:

Holidays

Making a yearly schedule for the weeks when school is closed and for the family vacations can be dificult. Especially when the parents have international careers, or when the children have (half) siblings living in different countries. Some countries have totally different school schedules. In Brazil for instance, a school term runs usually from February to June and from August to December. This is difficult to combine with the school holidays in the Netherlands, where children have 6 weeks off in the summer and 2 weeks for Christmas. You can see the schedule for the Dutch schools on this government website. The exact schedule depends on the region in which the school is located.

During mediation we can discuss the visitation arrangement and pay attention to:

  • what have the children gotten used to, when it comes to the vacations and holidays?
  • what are the logistical challenges?
  • what are the costs of traveling?
  • where will the (half) siblings and other (extended) family members spend the holidays?
  • should their ties to a country and it’s culture be considered?

Spending a vacation as a bleded family can be stressful. You can ask for advice from a steph parent coach.
