Custody:

Leisure

In The Netherlands, parents who have joint custody, can ask the court to settle any dispute that they may have about the use of the leisure time of the child.

But it might be better to try to settle this with mediation.

The dispute could concern:

  • the choice of sports or music instrument
  • the number of hours that should be spent on the activity
  • wether or not to allow or stimulate the child to play at a high level.

We can discuss this during mediation and we can talk about how your child can have the possibility to express his or her opinion about this. The agreements about the leisure time can be added to the parenting plan. If you do wish to go to court to get a decision about this, you need a lawyer to file a request for you at the court in the district in which the child is habitually resident. You can find the right court on this government website.
